Kokeshi | For Luck and Prosperity

W Japońskiej kulturze laleczki “Kokeshi” są szczególnym i wyjątkowym prezentem, jakim możemy obdarować kogoś bliskiego. Przynoszą szczęście i pomagają zrealizować  plany i cele obdarowanego. Magdalena Kwapisz-Grabowska podeszła w charakterystyczny dla siebie sposób do tematu, tworząc własne “Kokeshi” w formie ciekawych i intrygujących kompozycji malarskich w formie zestawionego ze sobą tonda oraz trójkąta. Widz może dowolnie żonglować elementami! Dzieło malarskie nabiera zatem nowego znaczenia oraz zaczyna spełniać nową rolę..

In the Japanese culture the tiny doll called “Kokeshi” is a special type of gift one can present to their Beloved Ones. It is said to bring luck and help to realise and fulfill the plans and dreams of the one who received Kokeshi. 

Magda Kwapisz-Grabowska approached  the “idea” of Kokeshi in her own, unique way. Kokeshi is a two object composition of triangle and tondo on which the artist creates images, moving between abstract and neofiguration. A viewer is free to arrange her or his own Kokeshi using the painted picture elements.

And here, the work of art gains the new meaning and role – protector and luck bringer.
